A Clinical Lab Scientist Intern (Trainee) is enrolled in Children's Hospital's Clinical Laboratory Scientist Training Program. This one-year program provides training of the individual to become technical proficient in the performance of laboratory procedures. The trainee requires the ability to concentrate and learn the theories and principals of laboratory medicine, as well as the ability to apply those principals to laboratory specimens. Interns must demonstrate the physical dexterity required to utilize the various instruments and equipment required to perform laboratory procedures. Interns work under the general supervision of the Education Coordinator as well as under the direct supervision of the department supervisors and designated licensed scientist when rotating through the various clinical departments of the Laboratory.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • College degree – 4 year required - specific course requirements to qualify for training license
    • Sixteen semester hours or equivalent of Chemistry to include quantitative analysis, organic, and biological chemistry; 
    • Eighteen semester hours or equivalent of biology to include immunology, hematology, and medical microbiology; 
    • Three semester hours or equivalent of physics to include light and electricity.
  • CLS-T – CLS Trainee license required
