This position is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, evaluation and monitoring of trauma education and initiatives that is designed to enhance the clinical skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals. This role involves: 1.) collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the Trauma PIPS program, ACS standards of care and evidence-based practices are integrated into patient care and professional development to provide optional care for the injured patient; 2.) expertise in adult learning theory and multi-generational learning principles to promote quality educational programs; and 3.) being an expert resource and liaison.

The Trauma Program Coordinator will closely work with the Trauma Program Quality Coordinator in supporting and assisting in identifying and prioritizing performance improvement and patient safety opportunities within the trauma program.

About Us:

Valley Children’s Hospital (VCH) is the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Central Valley that is verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). The Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Administration leadership oversees the Trauma Program at VCH and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes across the continuum of care. The data entered in the trauma registry (database) is validated, analyzed and used to drive and support performance improvement and patient safety (PIPS), trauma center and system planning, education, research, injury prevention activities and legislative outreach pertaining to trauma. The Trauma Program’s participation in ACS trauma quality improvement program (TQIP) helps to elevate the quality of care for our trauma patients through risk adjusted benchmarking.

Experience and Education

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years critical care, ED and/or trauma experience required
  • High level clinical problem-solving and critical thinking skills required
  • Demonstrated progressive computer and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in pediatrics preferred

Education/ Licenses/ Certifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field preferred
  • Active California Registered Nurse licensure (RN)
  • HeartCode Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
  • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
  • Trauma Certified RN (TCRN) preferred
