This position is licensed or licensed eligible to practice in the State of California, accountable for providing general and specialized neuropsychological services to patients and families, including assessment of the relationship between brain function and behavior in collaboration with the healthcare team and others in the community. Clinical responsibilities include primarily outpatient neuropsychological evaluations of infants, children, adolescents to young adults with known or suspected CNS, PNS dysfunction affecting cognitive, neurological, motor or sensory functioning, who have a variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, with a potential for some cross-coverage with our inpatient specialists on the various hospital units. Familiarity with the following populations is preferred: Traumatic Brain Injury/Acquired Brain Pathology, Neurosurgery, Epilepsy, Oncology, Cardiology/Cardiothoracic Surgery, ECMO or history of ICU hospitalization, Respiratory Compromise, Infections of the Brain, Neurovascular Disorders, and other medical conditions that may affect brain functioning. This clinical position may also be responsible for assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions including, but not restricted to ADHD, Learning Disorders, Developmental Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, genetic conditions, etc., as part of our neurodevelopmental program. Familiarity with neuroimaging is preferred but not required. The successful applicant should be comfortable collaborating with members or our neuropsychology/neurodevelopmental team, in addition to specialists from other programs within our Neuroscience division (Neurosurgery, Neurology), in addition to other Valley Children’s Healthcare programs and divisions. Clinical instruction opportunities exist. Limited teaching and research opportunities are available with our medical residents and medical students who are affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, although this position is primarily clinical.

About Us:

Our specialists in the Neuropsychology Department at Valley Children’s provide consultation and evaluation services for children and young adults with known or suspected dysfunction of the central nervous system (CNS: brain and spinal cord). Our doctors specialize in the assessment of brain and spinal cord functioning and disruption in relation to the patient’s abilities involving cognition (thinking and information processing), motor and sensory abilities, adaptive functioning, in addition to general behavior and emotional status. The Department of Neuropsychology provides services primarily for inpatient programs. Priority is given to inpatients and outpatient follow-up appointments for previous inpatients. There are limited resources for new outpatient consultations.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum five (5) years postdoctoral experience in clinical neuropsychology with an emphasis on pediatric practice required
  • Bilingual skills preferred

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Psychology from an accredited institution, with specialization or postdoctoral fellowship/internship in neuropsychology required
  • Psychologist license or license eligible required
