The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice nurse who functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, leader, consultant and researcher. In collaboration with the healthcare team, the CNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes. With in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience in a nursing specialty, the CNS sphere of influence includes the care of the patient/family, practice of nursing and providing solutions for complex systems and processes. The CNS serves as a role model, patient advocate, charge agent, and leader to enhance patient care. This position practices within the scope of the California Nursing Practices Act and in accordance with Valley Children's policies.
Valley Children's Specialty Nursing Services encompasses several different nursing services with specialties in Pediatric and Neonatal Palliative Care, Wound - Ostomy, and Vascular Access. We service both our inpatient and ambulatory departments providing top quality care for our pediatric and neonatal patients. Our specialty nurses have advanced education or certification in their respective specialty fields and function very autonomously. In conjunction with our physician partners and / or medical directors, this team navigates and delivers the unique care of our pediatric patient population. Additionally, these specialty nurses provide ongoing education to our bedside nurses in their respective field of specialty and actively participate in clinical research.
